TL;Dr.: Women are at a substantially lower risk of sports-related sudden cardiac arrest (Sr-SCA) than men, even when sharing similar characteristics, according to data from three European population-based registries. The incidence of Sr-SCA in women was over 13 times lower than that in men, with an average annual incidence of 0.19 per million in women compared with 2.63 per million in men. The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology by Weizman and colleagues, found no significant differences between men and women in bystander response, time to defibrillation, and survival rate.
